Uncommon Years for Giving

Each year, the nonprofit sector receives extensive data describing philanthropy in the United States. In this session, Laura MacDonald, Chair of the Giving USA Foundation and Founder of Benefactor Group, will discuss data and trends from 2020, a year in which the environment for giving was certainly uncommon. Laura will examine the sources of generosity, the causes that donors cared about, and factors that influence both.

In addition to helping you understand what happened in 2020, Laura will show you—philanthropic leaders, fundraisers, volunteers—how to use this information to plan your own fundraising strategy. She will provide insights into trends about who gives and where they are giving, and she will provide you with a set of tools and tactics to make sense of it all and apply it to real life.
