Working Together: Simple Ways to Align Your Team’s iWave Activity
You know the old saying: Many hands make light work.
Due to a variety of factors, many prospect development teams are small, ranging from 1-10 people. Someone responsible for prospect research may also wear a variety of other hats, from volunteer coordinator to executive director.
On the flip side, there is also a danger in having too many cooks in the kitchen. Larger teams may suffer if there isn’t a clear separation of duties.
Luckily for you, iWave is a fundraising intelligence platform designed to make your life easier no matter your team’s size and skill. Here are some fast and simple ways teams can leverage iWave’s features to maximize the benefits of your subscription.
Know Your User Status
Imagine you work on a team of three prospect development professionals, and all three of you have an iWave user license. Types of licenses include:
- Primary: The “master” license, often held by the head of your department or the individual expected to use the iWave platform the most. The Primary user can add and remove other users, but cannot be themselves removed except by an iWave representative.
- Admin: A senior license with permissions to add and remove other users (except the Primary).
- User: A standard license offering full access to iWave’s features (except the ability to add and remove other users).
- Billing: Often attributed to the Primary user or the organization’s finance department, the Billing user receives emails from iWave about the account’s high-level details and billing information.
You can check your user status in the “User Management” section of the iWave menu. Remember that all users have the ability to search, score, screen, and access iWave’s many features, but only some users will be able to change high-level account settings. Connect with your team to determine who will fulfill these various roles.
Align Your Preferences
If you are a longtime iWave user, you know the importance of customizing your iWave Score settings. When working with a team, however, it’s critical for each team member to standardize that customization.
Imagine you are scoring prospects with an affinity setting of “Education”, an ideal major gift amount of $50,000, and a strong weighting for capacity indicators. Your colleague may present a number of great prospects. But on further analysis, you realize your colleague had a different affinity setting and a much lower major gift threshold. The profiles include lots of great information, but those profiles may not be relevant to your fundraising needs.
Sit down with your team and select your preferences together, step-by-step. You can even follow this easy guide from the iWave Support site. Remember to continually realign before starting a new project or major campaign. It might be a good idea to print a screenshot of the “default” settings for future reference. This will help you or other team members reset if you need to change your preferences for a particular project.
Share Profiles, Labels, and Wealth Screen Results
Suppose you are prospecting for new donors. You just created a profile for a potential major gift donor. Instead of typing a long email or arranging a meeting to describe the prospect with a colleague, you can simply “share” the profile on the iWave platform.
Each iWave user has the ability to share any profiles they create. All iWave users at your organization will receive access to the profile. Now everyone can see the scores, records, add notes, and export the profile. However, only the profile creator has the ability to delete the profile.
If you are building many profiles relating to a specific campaign, it is always a good idea to create a label to organize those profiles. When it’s time to collaborate, simply share the label and your colleagues will be able to access all the profiles attached to that label.
One of the best uses of the sharing feature relates to iWave’s wealth screening platform. If you just screened your entire donor database, it’s a daunting task for one person to verify all those new profiles. Why not share the results with your colleagues? Now all iWave users at your organization can view the results, verify the profiles, and add or delete records as required.
The first (and arguably most important step) of teamwork is ensuring you’re all on the same page.
