A $25 million commitment from the Neubauer Family Foundation to establish an innovative program to attract some of the nation's most outstanding young faculty to the University of Chicago has pushed the University's $2 billion capital campaign, the Chicago Initiative, over its goal, the University announced Monday.

In an effort to stem the rise of childhood obesity and related health risks, the University of Southern California (USC) has received a $7.5 million grant to launch a Comprehensive Center of Excellence in Minority Health. This is USC's first major grant from the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NCMHD), which is a part of the National Institutes of Health.

The Annenberg Foundation has donated $10-million for the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, which will house the UCLA Medical Center, the Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA, and the Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA, the university has announced.

University of Texas officials announced today a gift of $7.5 million for a research center on global affairs. The Robert S. Strauss Center for International Security and Law will open thanks to a $7.5 million gift from former Ambassador Robert S. Strauss and the law firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP. Strauss gave $5 million, and Akin Gump contributed $2.5 million. These are the first gifts in a $25 million capital campaign to fund the center.

Vanderbilt University

Vanderbilt University has received a $40 million clinical and translational science award (CTSA), its largest government research grant ever. The grant, from the National Center for Research Resources of the National Institutes of Health, will help create the Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, which will provide support to faculty working to translate fundamental scientific discoveries into clinical practice.
